Prof. Carrasco is the director of Institute of Psychiatric Research (Maria Josefa Recio Foundation, Bilbao) and an associate professor, Faculty of Medicine, University of Navarra in Spain. His research work has focused on the care burden experienced by caregivers of patients Alzheimer’s disease and the suitable approaches to minimize it. As a psychogeriatrician, he has been the Coordinator of the Working Group on Dementia of the Spanish Society of Psychiatry as well as being the Secretary of the Spanish Society of Psychiatry and currently represents it to the European Psychiatric Association. He has published over fifty articles in scientific journals of national and international level, as well as several books, and other publications.
He has directed six doctoral dissertations and has participated in numerous research projects, especially in the fields of dementia, depression in the elderly, and caregiver burden. He has also coordinated the two Spanish Consensus on Dementia (Spanish Society of Psychiatry and Spanish Society of Psychogeriatrics (2000 and 2005) and the Consensus of Depression in the Elderly of the Spanish Society of Psychogeriatrics (2010). In his career it can be highlighted that he has served as President of the Spanish Society of Psychogeriatrics (2006-2009).
Prof. Martin obtained Bachelor of Medicine in 1983 from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Navarra, where he earned a doctorate in 1990. He then did a residency in General Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry, Ramon y Cajal Hospital (Madrid), between 1984 y 1987. He completed his training in Geriatric Psychiatry in 1988 and 1989 at the Universities of Nottingham (United Kingdom) and Ottawa (Canada).
